A Look Back at Our History
Founded in Independence, Iowa, in February 1921 as Farmers State Savings Bank, we've grown into BankIowa, a proud financial institution with deep roots. By 1991, our expansion included offices in Independence, Jesup, and Lamont, making us the largest financial institution in Buchanan County, boasting over $100 million in assets.
In the late 1990s, our strategic expansion took us to Black Hawk County, with the acquisition of two banking facilities elevating our assets to over $180 million. This move extended our reach to serve five communities, including Waterloo and Cedar Falls.
We further expanded into Benton and Linn counties with the purchase of Benton County Savings Bank in Norway, Iowa, in December 1997. The decision to rebrand as BankIowa in June 1998 aimed to eliminate any confusion with other "Farmers Banks" in Iowa.
Cementing our presence, the spring of 1999 saw the construction of our first Cedar Rapids location, followed by a second facility in August 2001. Today, BankIowa proudly serves communities in Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Independence, Jesup, Lamont, Marion, Norway, Rowley, and Waterloo.
