If You Suspect Fraud Transactions on Your Debit Card
BankIowa utilizes an outside service to monitor bank-issued debit cards for potential fraud. Suspected fraudulent transactions trigger our vendor to restrict the card and attempt to validate the transaction(s) with you. The vendor utilizes text, email, and phone calls to contact you based on the contact information you have provided to BankIowa.
As the cardholder, you may respond to whichever form of notification was received, or you may contact the bank during normal business hours. Until communication is received from you, the debit card will remain in restricted status to protect your funds. Restricted status means the card will not work until you communicate with the bank or respond to the vendor notification received.
If you respond that the transaction is valid, the card will be changed back to active from restricted status. If you respond to the text, phone call or email that the transaction is unauthorized, the card will be deactivated immediately so that no other fraudulent attempts can be made on the card. Once a card is shutdown/deactivated, you will need to reach out to the bank to request a new card. Additionally, you should review your account immediately to determine if any fraudulent activity hit your account. To dispute any transactions and to order a new card, contact the bank at 800-433-0285. If you are suspicious of a text, phone call or email received after bank hours, you may call (855) 961-1602 using the case number provided in the text, voicemail or email.
